Pirates of the Caribbean

Adventureland, Disneyland Park

Pirates of the Caribbean is a boat ride, taking you on a journey through the scenes faced by pirates, accompanied by the classic Yo Ho! (a pirates life for me) song.  The ride takes you past the interior of Captain Jacks restaurant before taking you past ships, underneath swinging pirates and finally past Jack Sparrow.

There is no minimum height to ride but pregnant women are advised not to ride.

Queueing

The accessible queue is located at the ride exit by the shop, and is accessed by following the paths to the left of the main entrance. If you are facing Captain Jacks restaurant the access queue is to your right. Sometimes there may be a roped off area to wait outside for a cast member to come check your pass then direct you inside, other times this may not be there and you walk in.

When entering from outside there is a slight downhill slope, and you enter against the flow of quests exiting, so if a boat has just emptied there can be lots of people walking towards you, as you turn the corner to the ride load the access queue forms on the right had side and there is a fence providing a barrier between the queue and exiting guests. Once inside the queue area has very low lighting.

A premier access queue is available for green priority pass and easy access pass holders.

Ride Access

You can usually take wheelchairs and mobility aids right up to the ride, though at very busy times they may ask some to be left outside if you have a purple priority pass.

There is a steep step down into the boat, you step down to the bench seat then down to the floor, there are handrails to assist with this and to assist with pulling up to exit.

Aids such as walking sticks and crutches can be taken on board and placed at your feet.

Guide and assistance dogs are not permitted to ride.

Ride Comfort

The ride is mostly smooth and flat but there are two drops, and quite a steep incline that the boat goes up. There are no lap belts or other restraints and you are seated on bench seats, there are bars in front of you to hold onto if you want to hold on. The boats may stop and gently bump into each other, particularly towards the end of the ride.

You may be splashed with water but shouldn’t get particularly wet. There is a strong smell within the ride, similar to a swimming pool.

There is music playing and effects such as cannons, the lighting is also quite low, but there is no jump scares.

Wheelie Good Score

I always enjoy this ride, it’s long enough that the effort to get on and off feels worthwhile and it’s a cool break in summer and a chance to warm up in winter. I personally love the smell, though it is strong!

I’m will admit I have not watched the movies but that doesn’t take anything away from the ride for me.

For me personally it’s a Wheelie Good Score of 4 out of 5.
