Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast

Discoveryland, Disneyland Park

Take a trip to space to help Buzz defeat the evil emperor Zurg. This ride uses laser blasters to shoot at targets with the aim of beating your companion or simply getting a high score and being a galactic superhero. Remember to aim for the triangles and diamonds, they score higher than the circles and squares!

There are no height restrictions and the attraction is suitable for pregnant women.

Queueing

The ride offers a premier access queue for those with a green coloured priority pass. The accessible queue for all other pass colours is to the left of the main entrance, between the main entrance and the shop entrance. There is not always a cast member here, you wait and they will come out to check passes and bring you in when it’s time. This can cause confusion and people being in the wrong queue. The queue is covered but outdoors. There is no seating in the queue area.

When it is time to move inside there is an uphill ramp, it is smooth but quite steep and long and you are moving against the flow of people exiting the ride, although a cast member will be leading the way.

Ride Access

The ride vehicles are accessed using a moving travellator but this can be slowed down or stopped. There is a small step up into the vehicle. The front of the vehicle moves towards you after boarding so there is more space while boarding. You can take sticks or crutches onto the ride and lay them on the floor.

A wheelchair accessible vehicle is available which will fit the wheelchair user plus one companion. The ride is stopped and the rear of the vehicle has a fold out ramp.

Guide and assistance dogs are able to ride.

Ride Comfort

The ride has a bench seat for two people, though a third child may fit and be allowed, but there are only two laser blasters. There are no restraints and the ride is smooth. The vehicle may stop during the ride, often to allow access for those with disabilities who need the travellator slowing or stopping, but this is a great opportunity to score more points!

As you need to hold the laser blaster and shoot at targets good grip, vision and upper body control help with being able to play the game, but the ride still has lots to look at and could be modified to a ‘spot the’ or ‘count the’ type game if laser shooting is not someone's skill.

Wheelie Good Score

I really enjoy this ride and it has great accessibility features, it’s not too hard to get on if you are ambulatory but also has the accessible vehicle option. It’s a lot of fun and brings out my competitive nature, even if I'm solo and I just want to get a high score!

I really only knocked a star off because sometimes you get a dodgy blaster which is obviously why I have never managed the max score!

This ride gets a Wheelie Good Score of 4 out of 5!
