Orbitron

Discoveryland, Disneyland Park

Orbitron allows you to fly amongst the planets and up in the sky above Discoveryland, giving views of the land. The ride is inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s drawings of planets and it fits in beautifully with the Jules Verne inspired Space Mountain building. While similar to Dumbo or Flying Carpets this ride does feel a little more thrilling.

There are no height restrictions and the attraction is suitable for pregnant women.

Queueing

The ride offers a premier access queue and the accessible queue is easy to navigate. It is concrete with only a gently incline.

The queue is uncovered and exposed to the weather.

There is no seating in the queue area.

Ride Access

The best way I can try to describe accessing the ride vehicle is that it’s like climbing into a narrow bath. The sides are fixed and once in you are essentially sitting on the floor, if you are riding with a child they sit in front of you between your legs.  It is also a large step up with only a thin ledge to assist you to climb in.

Getting off was where I struggled last time I rode this ride and is the reason I don’t think I’ll ever ride it again. It is like trying to climb out of a bath and I found it incredibly difficult, even though at that time I was more mobile.

Ride Comfort

The ride is not overly comfortable because you are seated flat with your legs in front of you, though other than the seating position the ride is quite smooth. The ride goes up and down while spinning round and you can be at a bit of a slant.

Cast members can also be keen to encourage two adults into one vehicle which can increase the discomfort when riding.

This ride is slightly more thrilling that Dumbo as it seems a bit faster and higher, you have some control over how high your rocket goes.

Wheelie Good Score

I will preface this with I haven’t even attempted this ride since being a wheelchair user, so this is based on previous experience and honestly it was not worth the effort, even then. If you want a similar type of experience try Dumbo or Flying Carpets which are much more accessible.

This only gets one star because it does look gorgeous lit up at night!

This ride gets a Wheelie Good Score of 1 out of 5!
